Your Way To How To Play DVD On Wii

by Paolo Maggs

One of the most well-known gaming consoles nowadays is the Wii. It was said to be better than Microsoft Xbox and Sony PS-3 except for the fact that it was not yet capable of doing DVD playback. As time goes by and as technology advances, Wii coders have developed ways in which users will now be able to play DVD on Wii.

For that matter, two methods are now available for people to use. Homebrew owns the credit for such accomplishment. Through Homebrew function, the said console is now improvised and has kept its edge from the other gaming consoles now that it has DVD playback capability already. Its hardware, accessories and software are being used for such purpose; hence, Wii Homebrew.

Unlike the past years, the said DVD playback capability on Wii has been made possible with the standard feature from Homebrew installer software packages. Softmod can be used when you do hardware change for such function since that is easier and better than hardmod. Talking about softmod will then lead you to deal with the two approaches in playing DVD on Wii. With regards to this, it is important to remember that not all individuals have the interest of getting too technical with the process.

The two methods mentioned above are first, through accessing the Wii Homebrew Channel. The second is by employing a DVD to Wii Converter or by using the DVD to play DVDs on Wii. We only have these two available methods as of this time but the future has more to bring for Wii-users. As of this time, wii-lovers are simply having fun, enjoying the entertainment that the console offers.

Going deeper on each method, the first method will ask you to install a small, hidden channel on a system which results to having a DVD access library or libdi file that allows you to view videos with the use of MPlayer or the open source media player. The first thing to do here is to download a homebrew video player, copy them to the SD card, and use the Homebrew Channel to apply a two-second patch. After the installation, you can then use the Mplayer app from the Homebrew Channel, put a DVD in the drive, and harvest the fruit of your labors while watching your favorite videos. One thing to take note, however, is that your wii will be at risk once you’ll commit something wrong.

The second method requires a DVD to Wii Converter to play converted DVD on Wii. This method is said to be easier and safer than the first one because all you need here is the DVD to Wii converter and an SD card. The process is also simple. You just have to convert DVD to Wii supported format, and then copy that converted DVD to your SD card. If that’s done, play the converted DVD on the Wii with the SD card inserted on the wii and the fun is right next to you then. Having those two methods is indeed wonderful; it’s now your choice which one is better.
