The Search: Poignant drama of American cadet Clift and concentration camp survivor Jandl in postwar Berlin, when the boy’s mom despondently searches all the camps for him. Kim: An exciting action film based on the Kipling classic set in 1880s India, with British cadets battling disobedient locals. Cast includes Errol Flynn, Dean Stockwell, Paul Lukas, Thomas Gomez, and Cecil Kellaway. 113 minutes, 1950)
Kingdom of Heaven: A blacksmith, reeling from personal catastrophe, is influenced to join the Crusades by an illustrious knight, who says he is the young gentleman’s dad. The new knight shows his mettle by demonstrating himself a man of the people who battles to accomplish harmony between the Muslims and the Christians when guarding Jerusalem. Impressive, mythical film manages to find nobility in the Crusades, although by no means loses sight of its core personality’s personal voyage. Cast includes Orlando Bloom, Limn Neeson, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, David Thewlis, Brendan Gleeson, Marton Csokas, Ghassan Massoud, Edward Norton, and Jon Finch. (145 minutes, 2005)
The Only Game in Town: This romance of a chorus girl and a gambler takes place in Las Vegas but was shot in Paris, and it definitely hurts the film. There is little action and the inside scenes slow pace of this delightful adaptation of Frank D. Gilroy’s play. Beatty is phenomenal. Cast includes Elizabeth Taylor, Warren Beatty, Charles Braswell, Hank Henry, and Olga Valery. (113 minutes, 1970)
The Sentinel: A smooth however mindless shocker in reference to a N. Y.C. fashion model, who leases a house in Brooklyn, finds it’s full of demons and she’s to be the next protector, protecting the gateway to Hell. Cast includes Cristina Raines, Ava Gardner, Chris Sarandon, Burgess Meredith, Sylvia Miles, Jose Ferrer, Arthur Kennedy, John Carradine, Christopher Walken, Eli Wallach, Jerry Orbach, Jeff Goldblum, Beverly D’ Angelo, Martin Balsam, William Hickey, and Tom Berenger. Delta Fox: An unremarkable action-based opus in regards to a smuggler on the run from Miami to L.A. Cast includes Richard Lynch, Priscilla Barnes, Stuart Whitman, John Ireland, and Richard Jaeckel. (92 minutes, 1977)
