Over the past 25 years, I had the opportunity to discuss directly with the most professional instructors who use Overhead as part of their profession. Through these interactions I have accumulated notes and information that inspired me to write those items which relate to some of the most common problems encountered by owners of today and yesterday Projection TVs. This article is the seventh in a series of
articles are written professionally in the electronics of view regarding some of the major most general problems common projector and questions.

What is a Fresnel lens?

If you've ever watched the objective of your overhead projector (the lens that lies beneath the ice where you put your slides), you may remember a magnifying glass. And in some ways, you're right. The idea of the Fresnel lens is on your overhead projector to focus the beam of light produced by the projection lamp, projecting to the optic assembly of the head and on your wall or screen. Unlike a conventional microscope is thick in the middle and tapers to nothing at the edges, the Fresnel lens is a single layer across the width.

This little piece of magnifying glass Plastic found in your overhead projector is called a Fresnel lens. It is flat on one side and ridged on the other. In most cases, there are two pieces of this thin acrylic lens placed together, often referred to as a dual-element Fresnel lens.
Fresnel lenses have first used to concentrate the light beam in lighthouse lamps. These plastic glasses are used where light is concentrated required. The Fresnel lens, plays the same role in your overhead projector when the beam of concentrated light is required to project your image on a screen or wall.

How do I clean my Fresnel lens?

The overhead projector is usually a piece of top of the glass (stage) and just below that is a plastic lens with many circular lines on it (the Fresnel lens). Most of the Fresnel lens are marked on one side indicating which side goes to the lamp. If you know how to remove it, simply remove and reinstall the right direction. You should never use glass cleaner on the Fresnel lens, it can destroy the plastic lens. To clean your lenses Fresnel with a soft cloth moistened with water or a cleaner approved by the manufacturer must be used. A word of caution here: managing the Fresnel lens carefully to avoid scratches or other damage, this objective is a very expensive component of your overhead projector.

Once you reinstall the Fresnel lens and suddenly you have a round spot and fuzzy instead of clear picture from your projector, you will find that the Fresnel lens is probably installed upside down. Do not panic, simply remove the lens and re-install the right direction. It is a common problem for those who have suppressed this objective while cleaning the dust from their overhead projector.
